We’re at the end of June already. The summer solstice has passed and that means…
Eyelash extensions explained
If volumising mascaras promising miracles on your lashes have never worked for you, you might want to consider topping up your lash line with eyelash extensions.
With the overload of information about lash types, styles, volume, clusters, curvature and so on, it can be quite daunting to understand where to start. That’s why we decided to write a little overview about the most popular types and the effect they will have on your eyes.
Let’s start with the basics. What are eyelash extensions?
Just like you can add volume and length to your hair with hair extensions, you can do the same with your lashes. Eyelash extensions are fibres that can be applied to your natural lashes to achieve a fuller and darker line. The extensions are made of various materials including synthetic fibres, mink or faux mink or silk. They are usually applied individually to each of your natural eyelashes (on a 1:1 ratio) using semi-permanent glue and vary in length, tints and curls. And in terms of length and thickness, that’s where you’re really spoilt for choice!
If you’re in doubt about the type of lash you want (or that’s good for you) then you can always come for a consultation in one of our Cover Beauty Salons and chat with our lash experts. They’ll be able to give you all the information you need and help you pick the right style for your needs.
Deciding the best lash for you comes down to what is the final effect you would like to achieve. If you natural-looking understated lashes, then Classic or Natural lashes might be best for you, while if you want a more dramatic look, without compromising on the natural effect, you could opt for Russian or Hybrid lashes. And if you are not ready to go all out yet… you could always get a half-set or just corner lashes. A good compromise, especially if you’re just starting and don’t want to commit to a full set.
Now that we’ve briefly mentioned a few styles, we can delve a bit deeper into the most popular ones and their characteristics.
CLASSIC LASHES
Just like the name says, Classic Eyelash Extensions are a classic, natural-looking type of lash. They are applied to a 1:1 ratio, in other words, one extension per one natural lash. This is the secret to the natural effect, because it gently fills up the little gaps in between your lashes, slightly enhancing the flutter. Classic lashes are a great place to start your journey into the fabulous world of lash extensions.
VOLUME LASHES
Volume eyelash extensions offer you a full lash line and a glamorous look. You can choose from a wide range of volumes, from 2D up to 6D, depending on the desired final effect. The higher the volume of the lash the fuller the look… but there’s also the risk of them appearing a bit too unnatural. Another type of extension that is very popular to achieve a voluminous effect are Russian lashes.
RUSSIAN LASHES
With Russian Lashes, it’s possible to recreate a thicker fuller lash line thanks to the ultra-fine synthetic extensions used. This way it’s possible to apply more than one to each natural lash adding the desired volume. Due to their lightweight nature, Russian Volume Lashes can last up to twice as long as Classic Lash Extensions.
HYBRID LASHES
Last but not least…Hybrid lashes! This type of lash extension is made of a 70-30 mixture of both Classic and Volume lashes. A combination of longer and shorter lashes are strategically applied to frame the eye and the result is amazing. Hybrid lashes allow you to add texture, volume and thickness whilst keeping a fairly natural effect. It’s literally the best of both worlds!
So… which one is the best, and which one should you get?
Well, that depends on you and what you like. All lash extensions are good if they are applied by professionals who can also provide you with guidance and advice on what is best for you, considering your eye shape and the condition of your natural lashes.
We hope this little guide will help you understand a bit more about lash extension.
